Browser extensions for spotting AI content while reading - which actually work

I do a lot of competitive research and spend hours reading other companies blogs. would love a passive way to get an AI-likelihood signal on whatever page im looking at. tried 2 extensions last month, both were either silent or wildly wrong. anyone running one they trust right now

I run two and never trust either alone. the most reliable workflow ive found: a passive extension for the first signal, then if it flags something interesting, paste into a desktop tool for a real check. the extensions are pattern-matchers more than detectors, treat them like spellcheckers. Originality.AI and GPTZero both have extensions, neither perfect, both better than nothing.

The extension category is going to mature in the next year. right now they’re mostly hobbyist quality. dont base any decision on the score, just use it as a ‘maybe look closer’ signal.

@RustyCircuitX good frame. ill treat them as a yellow flag not a verdict

i wrote my own bookmarklet tbh. its just calling an api on selected text. the off-the-shelf extensions are flaky enough that for repeated workflow id just script it

The writing coach in me wants to say: dont let the extension train you to distrust good writing. ive watched editors gradually start questioning their own gut feel after months of using these. treat the signal as additive to your judgment, not replacement for it
