Writing a paper on content provenance standards and need the most recent adoption signal. is anyone in publishing or platforms tracking c2pa adoption rates? feels like its moving but i cant find a credible 2026 datapoint
Anecdotal but useful: of the major news wires we work with, all but one are now embedding c2pa credentials on image submissions by default. adoption on the platform side (display the credentials at point of consumption) is slower, maybe 40% of major image-heavy sites at this point.
Camera and phone side: nikon, leica, and samsung’s flagship now embed c2pa natively. canon and sony are in announced but not shipping. that’s the supply side maturing.
Thats really useful, thanks both. ill cite this thread informally and follow up with the wires direct for hard numbers.
the missing leg is consumer recognition. the credential is there, the platform doesnt display it, the consumer doesnt see it. closing that loop is the next 18 months of work.
Fwiw at our publication we now check c2pa on every contributor image and our reject rate on suspect submissions has dropped maybe 60%. the credential alone doesnt prove authenticity but it does establish a meaningful chain that the contributor would have to deliberately spoof. that friction is what we needed.
